Basic rules

  • Participation is open to cabin yachts (monohulls) and flat-bottomed boats with a minimum length of 6.5 meters.

  • All crew members must be currently working for (or have previously worked for) a Capgemini organization (Capgemini or Sogeti), with the exception of the skipper/owner who wishes to participate with a Capgemini crew. The basic requirement is that at least two crew members must be employed by Capgemini or Sogeti at the time of the race.

  • The skipper/owner is responsible for insuring the boat. Please note (due to the potential height of the insurance deductible) that this is not an official race but a sailing tour with a competitive element—there is no collective start.

  • A final decision on whether the event will take place will be made in mid-August, and participants will be informed by email. The event will only be organized if there are enough qualified registrations. Registration is open until September 1. After that date, any changes must go through the CapCup Committee.

  • The participant fee for this edition has been set at €40,- per person. The skipper is requested to settle these costs internally with their crew. In the week leading up to the CapCup, the above-mentioned costs will be settled centrally between the skipper and the CapCup organization.

  • In case of cancellation, no refund will be given. If payment is made on the day of the CapCup or later, the registration fee will be €45.00.

  • We will prepare a budget covering drinks, dinner, and race materials. We aim to at least break even; any surplus will be distributed on-site in the form of drinks.

  • A berth in the harbor will be arranged in consultation with—and at the expense of—the skipper.

  • Depending on the weather conditions, the total route will take approximately 6.5 hours. Start time is 10:00 AM and end time is 4:30 PM.

  • Skippers are responsible for bringing a recent chart of the Markermeer and IJsselmeer, adequate safety equipment, and a first aid kit.

  • To determine and sail the most optimal route, only a limited number of buoys may be used—these are listed on chart 1810 and included in the “Sailing & Start Instructions.” The latter will be handed out in print to the skippers during the skipper’s meeting.

  • Each vessel starts independently and is responsible for its own timekeeping.

  • The sum of all legs sailed between two buoys, completed within the allotted time, will be used as the final result. All buoys and legs may be used as many times as desired.

  • Buoys must be rounded, and no explanation is provided for what “rounding” means.

  • Finishing must occur between 16:00 and 17:00, with a planned finish time of 16:30. Any time beyond 16:30 (but before 17:00) will result in penalty miles, calculated as follows: every 5 minutes equals 0.5 penalty mile. Finishing before 16:00 or after 17:00 results in disqualification.

  • Completed timekeeping forms must be submitted to the CapCup Committee by Saturday no later than 17:15. The specific boat where the forms should be handed in will be announced during the skipper’s meeting.
